My desktop had a link that looked just like one of those fake spyware popups covering the whole screen that i couldnt get rid of for a long time. I finally found the folder with the image in it and deleted it and now the image is gone but it left a big blank white area in its place that wont let me see the desktop. The only way i can see it is if i hide the taskbar and then i can only see the very bottom of it where the taskbar was. If i right click on it and click "view source" it opens up a notepad document that says the following:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
<!----

rightMargin=0><IFRAME id=0
style="BACKGROUND: none transparent scroll repeat 0% 0%; LEFT: 0px; WIDTH: 1440px; POSITION: absolute; TOP: 1px; HEIGHT: 869px"
name=DeskMovrW marginWidth=0 marginHeight=0

subscribed_url="C:\WINDOWS\desktop.html" resizeable="粶낀"> </IFRAME>
<OBJECT id=ActiveDesktopMover
style="LEFT: 0px; VISIBILITY: hidden; WIDTH: 0px; POSITION: absolute; TOP: 0px; HEIGHT: 0px; container: positioned; zIndex: 5"
classid=clsid:72267F6A-A6F9-11D0-BC94-00C04FB67863></OBJECT>
<OBJECT id=ActiveDesktopMoverW
style="Z-INDEX: -1; LEFT: -1px; VISIBILITY: hidden; WIDTH: 1442px; POSITION: absolute; TOP: 0px; HEIGHT: 871px; container: positioned"
classid=clsid:72267F6A-A6F9-11D0-BC94-00C04FB67863></OBJECT>
</BODY></HTML>
Does anyone know what this is, where it came from, or how to get rid of it?
I already ran norton antivirus, spysweeper, and ad aware and got rid of everything they found and it still doesnt go away.
Help me please,
-Matt |

A quick fix would be to disable web content on your desktop. It still sounds like you've got spyware on your machine though.
Go to http://www.pestpatrol.com and let it scan your macine. It won't remove anything, but it will tell you what else you might have and show you how to remove it.

Click on 'Start\Control Panel\Display'
Click on the 'Desktop' tab then the 'Customize Desktop' button.
Click on the 'Web' tab and 'Delete' anything in the box you don't recognize. The default is "My Current Home Page". |
