| I Need "The Best" Anti-Virus Scanner
Hey Everyone,
How's it going? Let me try to make this simple: I want the best anti-virus scanner software for a personal computer running Windows XP Service Pack 2.
Let me point out that I know a lot of people will say that there is no single best AV scanner and it's up to a person's opinion. I understand that, so I am looking for the best scanner that is recommended by people who know this thing well.
The details:
-I do not care how much it costs. I will spend money on a good software once and hope that I do not have to again anytime in the near future.
-Looking for a scanner that is good with cleaning up viruses and problems that are found (very important).
-Looking for a scanner that does not hog my system resources too much (important).
-Looking for a scanner that can scan my entire computer quickly (but not that important).
-Looking for a scanner that has frequent updates (somewhat important).
If I sound mad, I'm really sorry. I just want to get to the point because my Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition seems a bit weak for getting rid of viruses. I have over two dozen items in Quarantine and nothing is ever seems to be fixed.
Please post your recommendations. Thank you =) |

one thing you need to keep in mind, when getting rid of viruses sometimes the program cant do it because it has infected an important process that is running in the background.
AV software can only do so much |

avast personal antivirus is pretty good for me. it doesnt hogs much of the comp's resources, has frequent updates, and does a good job detecting trojans. it's free too... . i've tried norton, macafee and kaspersky. i feel avast is the best (in my opinion). |

Many virus problems can't be cleaned up by any anti virus software. You need to manually remove them, which can be a complicated process sometimes. I would use Norton or AVG [free]. |

AVG like said. Want something done right gotta do it yourself sometimes. Try some registry backup programs if you want it the way it was--at least you'll be able to function better. Still gotta delete the folders if you want it totally gone. And Epsom makes really good scanners. |

If you wanting a solution for your home computer, the free solutions from the usual suspects on this board are excellent:
AVG 7 Free; backed up by free online scan services HouseCalls and RAV;
Zone Alarm Firewall
Spybot Search and Destroy
Spyware Blaster
Get Move On Boot to delete hard to delete files.
If you think you can pay your way out of the problem with a one program that does it all, simply and without eating up your resources...you let US know! It doesn't work that way.
No one program works for all of it.
