once you pop, you can't stop...

Ok, so i was having problems a week or 2 ago with my system...so i formatted my hard disk and re-installed windows...problem solved...well, at least that problem.

so anyway, it's been about a week since i did this...and up until about 3 days ago, everything was fine. Until i started getting THE SAME POP UP's ALL THE TIME. I get one that says - 'Play poker with XXX girls!', another one that says - 'Windows Security Centre has found that your system may be infected, do you want to download free anti-spyware software?' (erm...no not really 'windows' )
and also, sometimes i could type, say - yahoo.com - and i will get redirected to another site which says - 'play games with xxx girls!'

this is all really annoying, as i can assure you that i have not been on any porn sites since i formatted. I can't even think of any un-toward websites i might have been on since formatting (i am a cautious surfer)

So i have run - Adaware, Spybot, Mcafee Home Edition, Zone Alarm, and a bunch of other anti-bad-stuff programs reccomended on www.majorgeeks.com etc.

i really do not know what to do? i dont want to format again, as it's really annoying and i'd rather just remove this problem...

I know ive just rambled, and sorry...

Thanks for any help!

sounds like you don't have sp2 installed and these are "messeger service" popups.

if i'm right its very easy to stop them.

You don't want to hear this, but your best option would be to wipe your entire HDD with a program like www.killdisk.com and do a reinstall. You could spend 24 hours trying to get rid of this, and still not be certain it's gone.

Are you reinstalling any cracked/suspect software? (rhetorical question here!).

hey! wow, fast replys!

ok, so here's why i havent got SP2....deal is, i formatted about 4 weeks ago...installed all my stuff, mcafee, etc. then i installed SP2. After doing this, my system messed up, and that is why i had to format again, because i was having problems with the files on the system becoming corrupt or something...? ( System File Missing )

so anyway, i'm not definately sure that SP2 was causing the problems...but i sort of dont wanna risk it...

also, yeah i updated all my ad-aware, spybot, zone alarm, mcafee, etc. but they are finding nothing on my system...

hhhhhmmmmmmmmm

thanks for the help so far! keep it coming !

Wipe the drive, definitely. Certain viruses/trojans can reinstall themselves if you only do a simple format, and wiping the drive brings it back to like-new status.

you don't have sp2.

try this.

start--run--services.msc click ok

scroll to messenger. right click on it and click properties.

set the startup type to "disabled"

and click "stop" to stop the service.

clicl apply or ok (whichever comes up.

no more messenger service popups..........if thats what they were

i checked that out 'doddsy' and it was already disbled and stopped...and these pop ups have a picture of a girl with no top on, so this isnt a messenger sevice pop-up...

i dont understand how i could have these things?! ive been working since i formatted and havent really had time to browse too much!

its really annoying...if i format again, it will be the 3rd time in a month...cant really be too good for the HDD can it? or is that just me being lied to by sum1? lol

either way, i really dont wanna have to

thanks so far!
