My Verizon DSL connection has slowed to a crawl the last several weeks. The modem ethernet light just blinks continuously now although it worked fine for 10 months.
I am running Win2k, NAV 04 (current updates), Adaware regularly, Spybot, and installed Spyware Blaster the other day. I checked the running processes, don't notice anything unusual, and the computer runs fine.
I've called Verizon several times about this problem and their tech reps (they sound an awful lot like they're reading from a script, not very confidence inspiring) tell me to restart my computer and turn off the DSL modem when the problem occurs. This worked for about a day. Then when I called back they said it must be adware and my problem.
I've run NAV, spyware software over and over and nothing comes up. But the connection is down to a dialup speed.
Any ideas on how to locate spyware that is stealing my bandwidth? Or might this be a DSL problem as I think it is? Wasn't sure whether to post this in the networking section. Thanks all... |

Do you have a software firewall installed? If so, you could monitor any and every outgoing/incoming connection to your PC.
I would recommend Sygate Pro personal firewall. If not that, then Zone Alarm. They both have free versions.

| I had the same problem as you, even had a technician come out to check the lines but they couldnt find anything wrong. So i switeched to Comcast, not much advice, but i tried to deal with this for well over a month and the situation never improved. And the tech support is decent, it all depends who you get, and they interpret the problem as being on your end. But there is always a chance that the problem is on their end. |
