Anti-virus Analysis Report for AVG specifically

Anti-virus Analysis Report for AVG specifically
Version 0.2

==================================
Update logs:
v0.2
- rewritten the introduction to make it clearer
- more emphases were made on certain areas, to ensure readers will not be misled or going on the wrong track
- an IMPORTANT!!!!! Before you read the report… section is added. It is good for you to read before going straight to the report.
- some strong reminders are added because I was once asked for the links/answers which are clearly answered in my post. With good reminders, this can save readers time on waiting for me to point out to the right direction (and save my time too :-D)

v0.1
- first release of my post
==================================

To AVG users, or users-to-be, or anyone who is interested in AVG:
Hi. Some people request me for more information about AVG anti-virus capability.
OK. There's a small summary report which specifically for AVG. Bear in mind, I just gathered information from the sources, and present to you neatly. The summary report is served as an introduction/overview of how well AVG is in terms of AV capability. If you wish to know more, I provide a lot of good links for you to explore at the end of my post. Enjoy!

Again I would like to say sorry that you may feel the following information is so brief.
Anyway I hope you will find it useful.

IMPORTANT!!!!! Before you read the report…
The report below may conflict seriously with what you know/hear about AVG. So be prepared for it.
And after you read this short report, or for whatever reasons, you may become too curious about why AVG will get such kinds of results. The best way to find out the answer is to explore yourself. See the "Related Links" section for the websites which contain much more (good and informative) reports!!]

About the test
This is another series of test which is recently implemented (latest 2004, cool!). From the reports, you should notice how brief and bad it is. Only a small portion of AV aspects is concerned. But detailed reports need time to produce. Don't think it is a piece of cake to finish a whole series of reports. It is much much much harder than you may think. So it is the matter of fact that detailed reports must suffer from some degree of outmoded-ness (eg 1/2 year).

Free VS Paid
Fro this minor report, I would like to point out one thing. You will notice quite many products offer both free and paid versions. Don't think there's just a difference in features, or supports etc. It is very common that a free product is inferior to its paid one in terms of their AV capability!!
From the above sample, it is surprisingly to see even both Personal Pro (99.XX%) and Personal AV (97.XX%) is from the same company, they achieve differently in terms of AV protection. We learnt one more thing from the research.

Finally just to make sure you get information from both sides. It is true there are quite a few users who recommend AVG. And there is a lot of good news relating to AVG too. AVG isn't bad indeed. At least it is qualified as passed in some AV testing authority.
Hmm... There're also some magazine reviews which praise AVG highly.

Personally, I don't rely on magazine reviews generally. I have explained my reasons in depth in my thread of Excellent sources of anti-virus comparison reports!!

This article explains well how you should judge from different sources of information.

[IMPORTANT!!! Please read the above website if you wish to know the details of the test. I think some users may miss it if I don't emphasise here.]

Comments, Feedbacks, and Suggestions
Would I ask you to spare just a few minutes to give me any Comments, Feedbacks, and Suggestions about my report?
I highly value much on your opinion. Even if it is negative, I would still like to know.
Just don't give me purely too offensive/insulting comments, or I will suffer a heart attack.
Thanks a lot.

[ IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!! It is highly recommended that you click on the above links and read, especially when you are too curious why AVG gets such kinds of results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In the above links, they contain much more good & informative tests/reports for you to explore. Sorry if it sounds too strong. But this can ensure the readers are on the right track, and they will not miss them and later ask me for similar questions which have already answered in this post. In this regard, this will save thier time and worries :P]]

"Locked" means the thread is completely closed. All people are not allowed to edit/post anything to the forum. It is just the same as an execution, and the thread will sink into the deep sea forever. XXD

I think they locked my thread up by mistake.

The webmaster never make my threads sticky. And I think they will not in the future.
I would like to see my threads sticky though

Maybe more people should request for this.
