Searched for this topic but couldn't find anything really related.
Recently I cleaned out an old hard drive of mine and found a Word 2002 document that I remember creating but do not remember what password I set along with it. Curiousity has gotten the best of me (because I don't 100% remember what I put in the file) so I tried opening the document in wordpad / notepad. What I got was 100% garbage which means that when I set the password, I clicked on the little box that said "encrypt file".
Obviously you see my problem and like i said, Curiousity has taken the best of me and all I think about is what may be in that file. Now I downloaded a free MS Word password cracker and set a brute force attack on 4-8 characters (lower case, CAPS, and numbers) but at 200,000 pw/sec, It gave me nothing over eight hours (do the math and you'll realize 200k/sec is jack.)
Anyway, Does anyone know of a way to
A) Remove a password in a MS Word Document
B) Get the password from a protected document (I prefer this method to be $Free$ since it's the only file I have)
or
C) At least DECRYPT the thing so I can open it generically and at least get the gist of it. I don't know that much about the world of Encryption but I would guess Word's is pretty standard and that someone has come up with a key.
Any help would be appreciated
**** I swear upon my TechIMO membership that the said document is rightfully the property of me and was created by me so help me God.****
