| Set up software listing clean windows software
Hi all, I recently set up this new web site (launched December 2004) as a resource site for free windows software that is free and clean from adware, spyware, etc. http://www.cleansoftware.org/
You can take a look at the criteria on the site if you want, it restricts to software that can be downloaded and used for free, without obligation to install advertising, and which doesn't have any known spyware, adware, privacy leaks, or tricky license agreements.
The site is geared towards software a typical Windows user would look for - web browsers, antivirus, office tools, internet apps (including flie sharing), etc. I've personally reviewed all the software [ I'm a consultant - www.sysdesign.ca ] and this site has been reviewed at slashdot.org and many other sites recently. This is a project I started off to help my friends and family find windows software that didn't suck, and it kind of blossomed, so check it out |

Looks pretty interesting. It'll sure be helpful to some people.
You might want to add a section of known software with "nasties". Things for us to avoid.
BTW, you should also post to this community a bit more too. Not that I'm accusing you of doing such, but others have made similar posts with the sole intent of getting people to go to their site and not have any intention of contributing. It just seems a bit suspicious every time you see a post like "you should come to www.mysite.com" and then you notice it's the person's first post and have to wonder. But from what I've seen your site will be helpful without any ulterior motive so kudos to you.
Best of luck to you and your site. |

Thanks for your reply. I've bookmarked this thread so this is not a hit-and-run I am not planning on adding any kind of listing of known-bad software, partly because of potential legal problems this may involve (ugly companies) but also because such lists already seem to exist and they require a lot of maintenance - not something I can do. Might want to check out http://cexx.org/adware.htm http://www.spywareguide.com/
But I do plan on keep building this list of good, clean software. More positive, potentially more useful. |

Thanks to the links. I never knew such places existed (although I never really thought to look before ). |
