| Strange message when shutting down XP
Last night when I went to shut 'er down, a message came up on the shut-down screen of XP saying, "Others are currently logged onto your computer, do you still wish to shut down?"
Well, naturally, I freaked and shut it on down. But what the heck kind of message is that? My wife's PC is in another part of the house, but she was not logged on.
Can it be that people are able to log onto my PC through my IP's beefy firewall + XP's own improved security features? Is there a log I can check for that night to see what addresses were logged on?
Thanks. |

next time that happens right click on my computer, click manage, click shared folders, then sessions. it will tell you who is logged on.
Sometimes if you have a network printer it will give you that message. |

Some programs and/or drivers do it too. The Microsoft .net Framework creates its own user account.

Thanks for the replies. I don't a networked printer, but I can see where somke of XP's "services" running in the background might be "recognized." I just didn't know XP referred to them as "users."
Microsoft ought to know better than to further frighten an already fear-riddled PC user community. Why didn't they just program XP to say, "Other services...etc."
But I don't guess we Lilliputans get to question the Giant. |
