| Securty prompting problem
Go to IE security settings and set them to Medium High and set them to default levels.
That should correct the problem. If problem still exist after this step go to IE Advanced options and and choose 'Restore Advanced Settings'.

One important detail to note. If you put the web page in the trusted sites category, that might not be enough. Take a look at what you are linking to (usually ftp://ftp.xxx.com) You have to add that URL to the trusted sites list as well in order for this to work. |

| One more Important setting in IE7 to allow Downloads
Through trial and error, I found that in addition to enabling "File Download" (Tools > Internet Options > Security (tab) > Internet > Custom Level > Downloads >> File Download) you also have to Enable (or set to Prompt) these other two options:
"Launching applications and unsafe files" and
"Launching programs and files in an IFRAME" (this one is only needed if your download occurs in an IFrame),
These 2 options are found under the "Miscellaneous" subsection, on the same settings screen as the "File Download" option.
After making these changes, I was then able to download files from sites, without having to put them into the "Trusted Sites" zone.
Hope this helps/works for others.

im having the same problem as christi, and i want to download firefox (i have safari and internet explorer) but of course i get the same "your current security settings dont allow this" crap. its ticking me off, and when i download stuff through safari, it will download, then when i try to open it, it says that it may be harmful, and give you no other option but to hit "ok" and when you do, the file is deleted. i am on windows vista, so there is problem number one, but does anyone have any idea? |

For awhile now, I've been getting this error message when I try to download things. It hasn't been a huge problem, I just stayed away from those sites. However, it has become a hassle. I tried to download the new version of iTunes when I got my iPod, and it gave the same error message. The only other time I can think of it occurring is when I tried to play MSN Games. I've googled the phrase as well as searched the message boards here, and couldn't find a solution other than lowering the privacy settings. However, all of my settings are default, and nothing is set to High. Any advice? Thanks! |

Only I just finally fixed it. I went through all the steps: setting the zone to meduim and default, enabling downloads, java, and active x, adding to trusted sites, turning the firewall off, and so on.
What I finally did to get around this was to create a new user account (which you can do in the control panel, provided your account is an administrator). Give it administrator priveleges, and download what you want from that account. To get the downloaded file to your account, do a search for the file name while in your account, or save the download to a shared file.
If it won't let you open the file from your account (like it did to me), right-click on it, go to properties, and hit the unblock option that should be at the bottom of the window, then apply. Hopefully, that will do it. |

Found this on Microsofts support site: You cannot open a new Internet Explorer window or nothing occurs after you click a link
To resolve this problem in Internet Explorer, follow these steps:
1. Quit all programs that are running.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.
If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):
• Shdocvw.dll
• Actxprxy.dll
• Oleaut32.dll
• Mshtml.dll
• Browseui.dll
• Shell32.dll |
