| Office XP MS Word Password Recovery
I have a 25kb MS Word file that I have mistyped my password for. It's just a short poem that I wrote and I would like to have it back. Unfortuanly my password is about 15 chars. long and uses upper & lower case as well as numbers and symbols. Is there anyway I can remove or recover the password w/out having to pay $30 or more for this? |

Yes.
If you know anything about VBA, you can search the Internet for your free solution.
But I am curious why you would use the most secure format available to password a poem. |

It's just a short poem containing Dad's credit card numbers or something like that. |

| It's my unthinking fault on locking a simple file
I haven't done anything with VBS in years, and my file really is just a poem. I was messing around with the password protection since it's been awhile since I've used it and sometimes need it at work. All I've been able to accomplish is to use the cipher command in the Windows command box to unencrypt the file. If you start me out on the VBS path I would appreciate it, or any other solution. |

I went back and looked for the VBA links I had, but can't seem to find them. I have a copy of Office Key which is a password buster program, but it doesn't work on the type of password you have. From the help file... Quote:
Office Key Limitations
Word 2002/2000/97 uses industry-strength RC4 encryption algorithm that makes instant password calculation impossible. Word Key finds the password by checking millions passwords per minute. Brute-force attack is the slowest approach and can test all the passwords of up to 7 characters. Xieve™ attack is much faster and is capable of recovering passwords of up to 9 characters. Dictionary attack is the fastest method - there's no limitation on password length.

Unfortunately, you have chosen the most secure password available, meaning you're going to have a pretty tough time cracking it (Unless you know someone who works at Microsoft or the NSA).

| Thanks for looking
I appreciate the help, it's not worth me paying decryptum for a tiny file, too bad their preview wasn't longer or I'd have all the text already. |

| password studio is a liar
Hi guys,
If you desperately need to recover your word document password, do not buy password studio application. From my experience, this software is really crap. I bought it for $20 and it says on the web that they can recover 2007 docx extension. And their technical support confirm that thing. After i bought it, i tested it by creating a new document and put 's' (number one only) as a password. I used brute force attack try to recover the password by the way. unfortunately, it couldn't recover it. I changed the number to letter 'a' and then 'b' (one character only), and yet it still couldn't find it. What a crap software. On the website it says that 100% money guarantee, we will see how it goes. The tech support guy seems doesn't want to admit that the software cannot recover word 2007 password. I advised them to send my sample document and ask them to try to recover it, but they didn't reply my email.
So yeah, just be careful when you buy that kind of software. Here is their website, Recover Password. Lost Passwords Recovery Tool.
Thanks,
Ditra |
