| Limited or Administrator?
To get the best possible security on Windows XP, is it really necessary to run your account in "Limited" other than "Administrator" all of the time. I have been running my system with Administrator privileges for some time now with Anti-Virus, Spyware, and Firewall apps and have had no problems that I know of. But recently, I have been hearing that it is highly recommended to run your computer at all times under a account that has Limited privileges. Is this true?

I don't think so...I have never had a problem with it...a limited account just gives you more problems...like having to switch just to install stuff...and all that other crap...it sucks. |

Running in a limited account is more secure. You can't install stuff and anything you run runs with lower privileges so it can't do as much damage. |

IIRC, when a program runs, if it is allowed, it runs with full admin privleges...I remember them saying something like that when they were releasing details about Vista...how it would fix that so when a limited user runs a prog, it runs with limited privleges... |

I wish windows had a something between full admin access and a pointless limted account. OS X seems to have a nice compromise on security and functionality. |

The only way to run something with higher privileges when you're using a limited account is to use Run As. Then you'll be forced to enter the username and password of an account with admin privileges. Quote: |

The problems usually are that certain programs wont run at all as a Limited User. As of XP microsoft has yet to embrace a reasonable user/admin setup comparable to how unix operating systems work. This was largely in favor of ease of use. |
