I'm Getting Port Scanned Msg's

Hi Everyone,

The last 2 evenings, around the same time I got msg's from my Sygate Firewall saying that someone has scanned my ports. What is this, and should I be alarmed? Sygate says the severity is minor, but still... Each episode has occured from the same 5 IP Addresses which are all in a row. Anyway, what do you think? thanks!

Sounds like someone doing a general port scan to see who's open and available. As long as Sygate is dropping those scan packets, you should be okay.

What ISP are you with? You could report it to them, since most ISP's have policies where they axe customers that do port scans.

It could be a zombie computer just scanning. Welcome to the wonderful world of the internet, i wouldnt think much of it. Now if you get an ip address that keeps hitting your connection trying different things, then i would be concerned.

Send a message via AIM to sr71000
is your computer connected directly to the internet or are you hooked up on a home network?

/edit if you're on a home network, your router should be dropping those packets and sygate should not know anything about it. If you're connected directly to the internet, then that is completely normal and expected! (not good or something to be excited about...lol..but it is normal unfortunately)
