It is all true and it works. I've used encryption for years. However my experience with routing internet traffic through anonymous servers was it was unacceptably slow.
It is sad to see the U.S. listed as a snooping restrictive government right beside China. President Bush's latest attempts at spying on the general public is nothing new, just more widespread then earlier administrations.

that and you would be surprised how many of those "anonymous servers" are actually watched by those who own them.

Many watch the packets going across.
