| Extremely Annoying Virus!! GAH!!!!
hey guys,
i recently aquired a lovely virus and spyware whilst surfing a certain you know what website using internet explorer and using windows firewall.
I know how stupid i was using internet explorer and that sorry excuse of a firewall. I ususally use firefox and zonealarm but i had just installed windows and didnt have all my programs installed yet
Anyhow after noticing sluggish performance i installed avg, spybot, adaware and hijack this.
After removing about 10 seperate viruses with avg and a few bits of spyware with spybot and then finding a couple of extra bits in my hijack this log i posted to a link found in one of martochs posts i figured all was jim dandy once more...
Unfortunatly despite running scans in safe mode with sysytem restore disabled returning no viruses or spyware in the previously mentioned programs i still have something somewhere!
I still get sluggish performance online and if i disable my zonealarm firewall svchost encounters an error & closes, upon report of the problem a microsoft page pops up and tells me i have malicious software and as a defence mechanism of someone trying to gain control over my computer svchost shut down
I cant think of what else to try? i almost threw in the towell today for a fresh install but figured id ask here before i format. |

You may have still a program working on your computer. Try in Add Remove Program to see if there is any unwanted programs that you can remove from there, maybe in Safe Mode to make sure that it will be removed.
Panda online scanning is also a great tool: http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan?
Good Luck |

If you ever figure out the specific virus thats causing it, post what it is here. You could also google the name and maybe find out some more information. You could also try starting up into Safe Mode, then running all the scans, and try to delete it in safe mode if you find out what it is. |

I don't know if avg has an "exclusions list" per say, but if it does, clear out everything on it. The items on that list get ignored in scans. I had a virus that did that. Once I cleared it, norton killed the virus.
