Hi,
never used sophos but for any other process
alt +ctrl+del ,find running application and kill it then use msconfig to stop it starting up
at reboot.

out of curiosity why are you looking to stop it , are you changing to another AV , in which case you would be better possibly to uninstall it as many AV programs conflict with one another

Steve.

Are you saying that when you click the x to close it it doesnt actually close, rather it just sits in the system tray? If so, you should be able to right click on its icon and there should be a close or exit option.

Clicking the x just minimises to the system tray.
Right clicking on it only comes up with three options for updating and one "open sophos anti-virus" option.

Hmm...interesting, mabye you have a different version.

With the program open can you go File > Exit/Close?

You might also try updating your version of the software if you haven't already. You might also look in the help section of the program, that might tell you how to close it. For goodness sake why are some programs so darn hard to close!

I don't know what to tell you.

Searching around again I find " 1.1.2 Closing the Sophos Anti-Virus window
To close the Sophos Anti-Virus window, on the File menu, click Exit."

Is this like at a workplace or something? If so, maybe they have it setup so that you aren't able to exit the program.
