Is there any way of (relatively easily) finding if there are magic folders on a pc I'm using? Don't want to access, just want to know if they are there.
Thanks |

show protected system folders? Or are you talking about stuff protected with a rootkit? There should be an option like 3 below show hidden files. I think it's called "show protected operating system files" or something along those lines. Maybe that's what you're looking for? |

If i go on the net & search magic folders, there's loads of downloadable stuff to hide files & folders from anyone using your pc e.g "Magic Folders makes any folder you choose and all the files in that folder completely invisible to others, even on the network! Your invisible folders and ..."
I know these are password protected, and for all any other user knows they are not even there. I want to know how (if possible) you find if they are there? |

Hmm...sounds like it's implemented with a rootkit to me (but i haven't really looked in any detail). Maybe if you boot to a dos prompt (xp cd recovery console) you can browse the files and look for anything new and mysterious |
