| Can you use Norton and AVG antivirus together?
SHould you use more than one anti-virus? Recently, I downloaded AVG free edition because my norton subscription period is over. Should i turn off norton's auto protect? Does AVG have that auto-protect function?
I saw some posts talking about using more than one anti-virus software, wont they clash? For example, AntiVIr with AVG? |

Just remove Norton.
It is more of a virus than an anti-virus.
I don't know much about AVG(never really tried it). But Avast does have real time scaners. |

Remove Norton and NEVER EVER USE IT AGAIN.
post a poll here and you'll find its one of the worst Antivirus programs ever.
Also, no I wouldn't use two antivirus programs together. A good one like Kaspersky is good enough. Also more then one will really slow down your system. |

Hello,
As a Norton/Symantec User I'll give you my opinion. I've used Symantec Corporate edition for years, without any problems...etc. I recently Downloaded Avast Anti-Virus, and let me tell you, I will not be putting Symantec Back on my computer. Avast does a better job of blocking Viruses compared to Symantec. Avast uses less Resources than Symantec, which made a big difference running Microsoft FS9, and other programs. With that said, depending on your Computer each program may run differently. What runs good on my computer, may not run the same on another. Avast is also Free which is very nice for people that are on a tight budget. As I said earlier I was using Symantec Corporate Edition, and not Norton Anti-Virus. I know for a fact that the Norton products are not as good as the Corporate Edition Series. So if I'm putting down the Corporate Edition, get rid of the Norton AV, and get Avast. It's a solid product, and being security conscious you should not have any problems. Along with a Anti-Virus, make sure you have a descent Firewall, Spyware, and Adware detection software.
Examples of these are going to vary, but here's a few:
Firewall: Sygate (not sure if they are making it anymore...bought by Symantec).
Zone Alarm (I believe they have a Free Version)
Spyware/Adware: Search & Destroy, Lavasoft Ad-Aware (both Programs are Free).
I hope that this helped. Take Care...Happy Holidays!!! |

Thanks everyone, I have uninstalled Norton.
Does Avast or Avg use less system resources?

Do they use less than Norton? Yes, a lot.
Between the two I believe that AVG uses less, but I don't think AVG has the real time scanners like Avast does(real time scanning is much more helpful, because if you do get a bad virus it stops it before it is too late) |

the free version of avg doesn't have real time scanning, but avast does. i've used both. avast uses a bit more resources than avg, but that due to real time scanning. |

Hello,
In Avast the Real-Time Scanner automatically starts when the Program is installed. You can adjust the Sensitivity of the Scanners within Avast by Right Clicking the Avast Icon in the System Toolbar, and Selecting On-Access Protection Control. i hope that this helped. Take Care...Happy Holidays!!! |

Yep, it is on automatically(as long as you didn't uncheck it when you installed Avast).
You may want to have some of the scanners off...as it takes up more resources.
The 3 scanners I use are the Standard Shield, Web Shield, and Network Shield. I don't know how important the Network Shield is, but the Web and Standard Shield are the most important. |
