I configured tbird to access my gmail account by pop. Do I need to configure AVG to scan the gmail messages or has gmail already scanned them?

If the virus system might miss something like AVG does. When in doubt, just delete the file.
No anti virus is full proof, personally i think two anti virus systems is a bit of an overload. |

it's not like resident scanning. It's entirely possible that avg may get a definition out before the gmail scanner does. also avg uses heuristics. I really doubt gmail has the processing power to run heuristic scans on all of their emails (that would be quite a feat). I would keep avg scanning the emails. what's it take...a second per email at the worst? |

It doesn't cost you anything to run AVG as well. Just to give you an extra warm & fuzzy feeling.
