This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team. The first thing I would recommend is to run LiveUpdate continually until it tells you that all of the updates have been applied.
Next, boot your computer into Safe Mode and run a Full System Scan.
Please try these steps and reply back with the results.
Thanks,
Mike |

Hi Shadow,
I'm sorry to hear that my instructions did not resolve your issue.
First of all, what Norton product and what version do you have installed?
Have you run Windows Update to make sure that you have all of the Microsoft security patches applied? If not, please do run it until it tells you that all updates have been applied.
Also, do you have any other 3rd party antivirus applications installed? Please check Add/Remove Programs and if there are any, please remove them, as they can cause conflicts.
Lastly, the symptoms you describe, do possibly point to some type of infection on your system, but I can't say for sure.
As soon as I hear back from you regarding your specific product, I will be better able to assist you.
Thanks,
Mike |

Run the Ad-Aware 2007 Free and/or Spybot - Search & Destroy programs. Norton won't detect or clear most of these problems. It's good for virus removal, but this is a trojan or spyware.
I really like spybot-search and destroy.
I run AVG, Ad-Aware and Spybot. I also use AVG's anti rootkit.

Careful with the new Ad-Aware.. it sees Spybot as a virus now for some reason and I wasn't paying attention when clearing out cookies and other junk after my Ad-Aware scan.. hehe.. You can also try Trojan Remover. I have used it in the past, but Ad-Aware is your best bet.
Hope you fix your prob, Shadow.

I fix computers often and the first thing i do when i come accross a problem simular to this one, is to uninstall Norton and install AVG or AVAST. They are free and more efficient. Quote:

For the bugs that slip through the net i reccomend you run HijackThis (can be downloaded here: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php) and post the results.
I used to run AVG, seemed to do a good job, but then decided to go with Kaspersky IS becasue of the better interface and better inbuilt protection. I've never looked back since.... Apart from the fact that it costs money, and AVG is free.

I too have found Norton to slow down systems way too much. |
