Acrobat Reader

I hope this is the correct section to post this.

This a meant as a bit of a warning but also a question.

I use Acrobat Reader, which occasionally tries to access the Internet ti check for updates.

But just recently its been trying to access the Internet to update three or four times a week, as indicated by ZoneAlarm asking permission to allow it, to exit my computer, which is a lot more often than usual,.

So one morning, i allowed it to access the Internet to update, and the program updated no problem, only a couple of hours or so after the update, Acrobat Reader was again trying to access the Internet, so i allowed the program out, and again it came up with another update, so having updated once that day, i canceled the update by clicking the option to cancel.

The dialog box disappeared as it should, and i carried on working, but then i got a Dialog box from Spybot, asking if i wanted to allow a change to my Registry, when i checked what was trying to make changes to my Registry, it was Acrobat Reader, so even though i had canceled the up date, it was still trying to alter my registry.

Would any one know why this is?

Thanks in advance.

I cant comment on your situation, but if you are NOT satisfied with Acrobat Reader, download Foxit.
Quote:
Foxit Reader is a free PDF document viewer and printer, with incredible small size (only 2.1 M download size), breezing-fast launch speed and rich feature set.
It opens pdf's 20x faster. And you wont have to worry about Adobe and their annoying updates.

I have used Adobe in the past and it seemed to do that all the time. I use Foxit reader as well. Way faster! I would dump acrobat and try Foxit. Or at least install and give it a try.

Google, Foxit - Portable PDF Reader. You can use it right from a USB stick or other portable media; Compact Flash, SD, you name it.

I would scan your computer with HijackThis

wow, I'm gonna try that Foxit, I'm sick of Adobe Acrobats one process, Reader_SL.exe, after a reboot, lags the system, takes for ever to load other process's, once I shut it down BOOM, everything loads, also occasionally its running in background after a reboot when I forgot to shut it off, lags the hell out of the system...

but that reader_sl.exe is known to slow down peoples systems while its running in background looking for updates several times a week.
