Experiencing slow startups with AVG Free Edition 8.0

Hi All,

Recently "upgraded" to AVG 8 Free from AVG 7.5 Free. Anyway, ever since the upgrade, I've had slow startups and I can't click on my 'Start' menu (or taskbar at all for that matter) for any reason -- I get instant hourglass. I can click my desktop icons, although their respective applications don't respond until whatever is holding the taskbar up frees up resources. What's really weird is that the hourglass goes away if I'm not hovering over the taskbar, but comes right back once I do. I'm *assuming* this is all caused by the new AVG as it's the only thing I've changed, but I'm not 100% sure. I could simply uninstall it, but I'd rather fool with it until I get more input. Any ideas?



My system specs are as follows:

AMD AM2 X2 4600+
2GB DDR2 667
250GB WD HD
Dual-boot WinXP Pro/Ubuntu

I have noticed the same thing. When I first turn on the computer it takes forever to open Firefox or outlook or any other program. Once it opens for the first time the program work fine its just the initial start up. I don't think its my computer because I just built it around Christmas time. But my computer seems to be running slower since I got the new avg 8. Might try uninstalling it tonight and run with out avg for a day or to and see what happens.
