help! norton is not working, and i think i got a bug in my computer

Every time I open IE and try to go to a website, i get redirected to a trash ad one which opens in a another window. When this happens Norton sometimes blocks the content and says that it has blocked an attempt to attack my computer.
The thing is, that I have done the scan on my computer several times and nothing shows up, and i dont know what else to do.
Please i need help, this is affecting my work.
thanks in advance

Some suggestions

1. If you have a bootable rescue disk, boot fom it and then run a virus scan

2. If you don't have one, bootup using safe mode. Run the virus scan again

3. Is your Norton being updated? Are you using the 2008 products? if not, update. If they are up to date, try a different virus scanner. You can run a free scan from Trend Micro HouseCall - Free Online Virus and Spyware Scan - Trend Micro USA if you can get there.

4. The problem could be in the browser - get a copy of opera or firefox and see if they work - you still want to remove whatever is redir IE, but at least you will be online

5. The problem could be in your router - there are attacks that change router settings to redirect you. I'm not sure how to address these - but if your machine is a laptop, try going on line someplace else. you can try unplugging the router in case the problem is only in memory.

6. Erase internet history files, change setting back to default.

I got a better Idea, download the anti virus software Avast anti virus its safe and very reliable and its free. You should also get stuff like spybot search and destroy,, and avg. I beleive they are both currently free and will take care of your problems
