Norton 360 too slow,any better

I bought Norton 360, for reasons I won't get into I had to wipe my brand new build, and reload everything. I thought Norton slowed down the system noticeably, until I reloaded everything except Norton. It is a real boat anchor. Anyone using a good anti threat software that doesn't slow the snot out of your system? The size of the program does not matter,I want protection and speed.Any recommendations will be appreciated!

Avast, and AVG seem to be the A/V programs everybody on here talks about. I use Avast, and it seems to to a better job (IMO) than AVG.

avast! antivirus - high security and protection from malware with anti-spyware and anti-rootkit software built in
AVG Free - Download antivirus and antispyware software for Windows XP and Vista

Yeah I personally use Avast as well and I prefer it. Also you might want to get something like Spybot Search and Destroy for spy ware that is occasionally throwed at you, and also Adaware for ad ware.

www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html- for Spybot
Ad-Aware 2008 - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com for Adaware

P.S. You can also download Ad-aware from lavasoft.com if you don't like download.com
