I recently purchased a laptop from hp and unfortunatly didnt know about the lojack software till now after it was stolen. I have reported it to the police, but today while i was on aim on my desktop i had the alert pop up that someone had loged into my screen name on my lap top.
is there a way to back track through aim to get the ip address that my lap top was used it. I mean the multiple connection on one name has to throw some sort of message up to aim. Or can anyone think of another way I can find the ip address of the computer to help find it. |

not with any legal progam that I know of. Course it would be in you best interest to inform the police of the incident. |

They could be using someones open wireless internet connection for all you know which wouldn't help you at all.
There really isnt a lot you can do |

Well even if it was possible, all you would get would be the IP address of the ISP they are using now. You would then have to turn that over the police and they'd in turn have to get a warrant and contact the ISP to find the details of the account associated with that IP.
I can tell you they aren't going to go through all that just for a laptop.

U want it back talk to the guy : )
Send a msg and start BSin him, make friends. Send him a sexy picture of some hot chick that u are, and after a couple of weeks ask to meet up with him. Then he will see ur just some pissed off dude wanting his computer back. hey it might work
As already talked about even with the ip there's not much u can do. You could use a new aim account, use netstat-a check all ips, check the ports that aim is using. Just idle it till he comes on so there wont be many ips connecting. Use a fake proxy in IE to block ips from ads. This will keep the number of connected IPs to a limit. Then just msg him when he comes on and with any luck u might beable to get the ip off netstat. Sry to say even with it there's not much u can do with it.
Even if it sounds F-ed up the best bet is to BS the guy.. Not to laugh as it's not cool to do so, could happen to anyone. Just the idea of something like that happening and some pissed off dude coming back for his computer would be kind of funny. Score one for the victim if it works.
Serial numbers might not help much either, cops don't really care about when someones stuff is stolen unless they just happen to come across it. Hope something works out for u, Good luck.
