As you probably already know, Spyware doctor is a good anti-virus program, and its free. But don't pay for a subscription because you only get updates that you can get a week later with the free version. Or you could just you Windows Defender that is suppose to ship with you system.

Since when is Spyware Doctor a good antivirus program???
From Avast... Quote: |

One of the many features to note...
Avast features a module for the protection of IM (Instant Messaging, "chat") programs, and a module for the protection of P2P (peer-to-peer) programs. The list of supported IM and P2P programs is extensive with more than 30 programs currently supported.
While chat itself would not impose any serious security risks in terms of viruses, today's IM applications are far from being just chatting tools: most of them support more or less sophisticated file sharing methods - which may quite easily lead to virus infections, if not properly monitored.
The P2P protection module doesn't need much explanation - on today's P2P networks (such as Kazaa) there are thousands of infected files, and an effective protection is a must.

I'm not denying that it offers virus protection...I asked when it became a good antivirus?
Avast offers spyware protection, but I wouldn't recommend it as a good spyware program. |

I use Cyberdefender and it does real good. I have the paid version, which include 2gb online backup support, but the free version scans for trojans, spyware and malware. It's really good. |

Avast offers spyware protection, but I wouldn't recommend it as a good spyware program. | Avast is wonderful, provided you dont use an voip, such as vent. After several weeks of trying to diagnose i came across a single thread in the micorsoft forums that described the confliction. Shortly after i tried Spyware Doctor. In the 4 years that i have been using spyware doctor i have never downloaded a virus, or any other form of malicious software for that matter. Im not saying go out and buy spyware doctor. Just food for thought |
