| norton fix now hi all, i'm running norton 2009, and it's started lately showing my system at risk, i run the fix now option, it just keeps on running for hours without correcting. norton's one click fix has told me to run live updates and full system scan, i,ve done this a couple of times to no avail.
my pc is xp home with service pack 3 an intel 2ghz cpu and 750 ram.
is reinstalling an option.
norton seems to be working ok otherwise.
thanks |

thanks | Hi daftdai,
This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.
Are you using Norton AntiVirus or Internet Security? Please let me know.
If you have not already done so, please boot into Windows Safe Mode, launch Norton , choose "Run LiveUpdate" and see if it will download the updates. Next, complete a "Full System Scan" to check for infections.
Let me know if you are able to accomplish this, and also let me know if any infections were found and if Norton was able to remove or quarantine the infections.
Thank you,
Mike

.Hi Mike wasn't too sure how to boot in safe mode so printed these instructions off from help
To start the computer in safe mode- You should print these instructions before continuing. They will not be available after you shut your computer down in step 2.
- Click Start, click Shut Down, and then, in the drop-down list, click Shut down.
- In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK.
- When you see the message Please select the operating system to start, press F8.
- Use the arrow keys to highlight the appropriate safe mode option, and then press ENTER.
- If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access using the arrow keys, and then press ENTER.
the trouble is in my start menu there's no shut down button only close down computer containing restart, turnoff and stand by. no drop down list appears if i click restart and the message please select the operating system to start does'nt appear.
any ideas mike, have i got mixed up?
thanks for your time

Just restart the computer. When the computer reboots, start tapping the F8 key, not real fast though. The menu will show up with the option to restart in Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Network, etc.
This would be done before windows boots up. |
