Post Anyone heard of this one?

Hello folks, Just the other day I got an infection. I dont know what it was but this is what happened. I was browsing torrents, when all of the sudden, things went haywire, I had downloaded anything. My Norton Internet Security and Antivirus disapeared. I had a warning in my tray that my computer has been infected, click here to (some rouge program) to fix this problem now. Right away I knew that I was infected. I signed off, unplugged my ethernet cable so that there was no live interference from the web and I did the first thing I always do when this happens. I went to run malwarebytes. I clicked on it, nothing happened. I went into program files so that I can rename the exe. file to something else, (so that the bug couldnt intercept) it diddnt work. So I automatically went to Combofix. I tried to run that, it diddnt work. Windows security center popped up, gave some kind of crazy message that definately diddnt come from Microsoft, then all of the sudden I got messages that all my programs are closing and windows was shutting down. I couldnt stop it. I knew things were going to be ugly if it shut down. I went to unplug the PC (so that it couldnt finish saving the settings and really screwing me) but I was too late, and the machine was started back up again. anyway, all I got was a black screen, No PS/2 mouse, though the USB worked, As did my usb Keyboard, (I guess the hacker diddnt bother to take out the control on the USB ports). I could get into task manager and that was about it. I couldnt start any programs, The My Computer icon was that of an undesignated file. I was able to copy some of my stuff to an external drive but the machine restarted again on its own and when it came back on, I had no external drive recognized. I had no choice but to Hit F10 and restore the machine back to factory settings and start all over again.

Now what I am asking, is, does anyone have any idea what bug this may have been, Does anyone have any idea if there was something else I could have done to recover the machine? I want to know these things just in case I get another visit from this bug. Cause that was something else I tell you. Please give me some feedback here. Thanks!

You probably could have gotten in through safe mode and then cleaned it out.

Good chance that the USB drive you plugged in is now infected as well.

Well, I have scanned all the files that I took from the machine. I recopied them. I tried safemode by the way. I forgot to mention that. I have scanned for malware 15 times since I restored this beast. There is nothing there, If it does, come back, I am going to format this thing multiple times and then reinstall windows. Good looking out though, I did scan my usb drive well. I got the same thing when I went into safe mode, however the task manager was in 4 bit like the machine would be booting in safe mode.
