X's disappear from programs

Ok, the other day when i logged on to my windows XP machine, my desktop was rearranged with my taskbar suddenly at the top and about 1 inch think with all my desktop icons in the taskbar. I knew i was infected with some kind of spyware. Also, all the controls in the top right hand corner of all programs and windows were gone (minimize, resize, X), also the checkmarks were gone that indicate what you want on your taskbar...like when you right click on the taskbar to get the menu the checkmarks were not showing. I ran Malwarebytes and deleted everything it found. I then ran combofix and it also deleted infections as well. I ran ccleaner and fixed registry issues and then restarted about 6 times. Everything was good. Couple days later and now the controls in the top right of all programs and windows are disappeared and not showing again. What else can I do or is something else wrong with my system that I am unaware of?

Sounds like a pretty nasty bug, best answer would be to reinstall windows, after backing up all your stuff.
