Anit-virus, Anti-spam programs
I had Spybot, Trend Micro anti-spam, and Malwarebytes programs on my computer at work. A "professional" technician was doing an upgrade on my system and noticed these programs. He proceeded to remove them, stating that they were slowing down my system. How could that be if they are not running unless you open them for a scan? Any opinions?

Spybot is known to slow IE down when the block known bad ws is enabled, but in general unless real-time protection is enabled, no, it will only use resources when told to scan
Trendmicro I cant comment on from personal experience
Malwarebytes only uses resources when scanning
Your tech is simply unfamiliar with these programs
Corporate minded techs often subscribe to the "if its not paid for its not good" mindset
I've worked with a few of these in the past

As with JP I can't comment on Trend Micro anti-spam as I've never ran it, but considering its an active real time email scanner I'd say it could slow down a rig. How much who knows, the real question is why do you think you need it? Unless I'm looking at the wrong product what I see is for hosted email accounts. So unless you are running this rig as a mail server I really don't see much need there.

I had a bank IT bozo identify one of clients old Spybot quarantine file as a trojan that I purposely put there.
These are the same ijits that think changing your password every week really matters.
Spybots teatimer will indeed slow pc's down.

Well considering some of the passwords 99.9% of the world uses "1234, God, Password ect" changing the dam things often isn't all that bad an idea, but weekly? Yeah that's not going to help.
How is the guy a bozo if he's identifying a "quarantined file" as a trojan? He's likely looking a software report which most see quarantined files as malicious...Might give the dood a break there, he doesn't know WTF you did or didn't do.

To clarify, a quarantined file sitting in a quarantine Spybot folder.
You would accuse someone of purposely implanting a trojan if the malicious file were in the Norton quarantine folder?
I do not know what enterprise level scanning suite you use RicheemxX but possibly you can find one that shows the file directory.

Didn't like Transformers growing up. I was more into Speed Racer and DBZ.
