Spy Sweeper 2010 using 50-90% CPU Idle

A family member of mine purchased and installed Webroot Spy Sweeper 2010. Immediately after installing and scanning, it began using 50-90% of the CPU, according to Task Manager. I suspect there may be some adware/malware on the machine. When spy sweeper is running, messages pop up at the bottom right, notifying that it has blocked a website. Spy sweeper and McAfee don't find anything after a full scan.

The computer is very lightly used, only for word documents, email, and playing bridge. If you haven't guessed by now, it's my grandmothers computer.

    Dell Dimension 8400
    Pentium 4 3.00GHz
    2.50GB RAM
