    Security Suite Virus

Well, I got a nasty piece of a virus called Security Suite, what it does is says that you have virus's all over the place making non-tech users scared, even though they put ridiculous things like notepad.exe. Avast seems to have found it all right, but I was wondering if there are any new good anti-virus's or firewalls that run side by side with avast that won't cause them to call each other virus's(Ex: Avg and Avast). I currently don't have a firewall, I'm thinking of using Comodo, but also I haven't been watching the Anti-virus/firewall market. Any Suggestions Helpful.

By the way if you happen to get this virus, open up task manager delete it by right clicking, go to process, kill process. Then run some Anti-virus.

MalewareBytes can be run as needed to fight tough issues.

    Stinger....same thing.

Then there are the many free online scanners.

In most cases that alone will not rid the system of the infection entirely as there are several files associated with this scare-ware and most AV's don't totally clean the system. You'll need to turn of system restore, kill your old restore points and run a few malware/AV cleaners.

    Avira AntiVir Rescue System
The Avira AntiVir Rescue System a linux-based application that allows accessing computers that cannot be booted anymore. Thus it is possible to repair a damaged system, to rescue data or to scan the system for virus infections. Just double-click on the rescue system package to burn it to a CD/DVD. You can then use this CD/DVD to boot your computer. The Avira AntiVir Rescue System is updated several times a day so that the most recent security updates are always available.

    Follow this.
Just add one step, do everything in safe mode.
I haven't seen a AV program that can handle scareware alone. Cleaning the infection out with anti-malware first is a given in my book. I've used Commodo on my XP machine it did a good enough job. However, since upgrading to Win 7 I've used the Windows firewall to good effect. If you are really nervous about being behind a firewall you might consider setting up behind a router or even a switch. One more thing, layers of protection is always a good thing but no matter how strong your protection it's all moot if you don't use the best protection tool of all "your own brain" by not letting these lowlifes out there trick you into letting them in.

SPI doesn't block connection attempts in terms of software already making Internet requests. This could be p2p, gaming and/or at a web application level. Even something as simple as updating your virus protection can have its downfall. Moreover, with WIFI, you may be interested in protecting the ARP cache.

Yes, logic and commonsense can go a long way. Most people just don't understand what evils are out there and they need to be informed. XSS and other crap, too can be a vector.
