Web traffic redirected to China still a mystery

    Well isnt this dandy!

In at least two instances since mid-March, large amounts of traffic on the Internet have been routed to China in circumstances still shrouded in mystery, Rodney Joffe, senior technologist at DNS (Domain Name System) registry Neustar, told CNET in an interview this week
Joffe would not name the companies whose traffic was diverted through China, but said it was a "large number of well-known organizations," including many departments of the U.S. government and almost every Fortune 500 in the U.S. Traffic originating near or in the Asia Pacific region had a higher chance of going through China.

I use peerblock to block China's IP address from the computer. Tried IP tables, but there is just too many. Now a company is selling out??? Fer FK sake!

I do, I just don't understand networks enough to grasp how serious it may be.

I'm guessing if they are sending data through to them, that means they can copy it off? Like, take all the DoD data flying around, loop it to a hard drive for decoding, then send it on its way?
    Good job, friend-of-friends!

DOD and the feds have at least three private networks. But, there are other files which I think may be allowed on the common Internet we know today. Maybe classified stuff. Top secret most likely not, you'd think.

Pretty much they had access to a lot of what could be sensitive info.

    From the original article:
Operators of those servers would have had the capability to read, delete, or edit unencrypted e-mail and other communications passing through those servers during that time, he said. The Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), used by e-commerce sites to encrypt traffic over the Internet, has been compromised so even supposedly protected traffic could have been exposed, according to Joffe.

The DOD has something called SIPRNet which handles classified information along with JWICS

Although i do care somewhat ... I am more worried about identity theft and some random dude from China coming to the states using my name, etc.

I honestly think that the incredibly network-based world we increasingly live in (no matter how much I love technology) is headed for quite a bit of chaos in the future because of, well, reasons like this.
