    Windows 7 Network Awareness

Windows 7 Network Awareness: How Windows knows it has an internet connection - Super User Blog

If you have Windows 7 Home you can manually add the registry key to keep it from polling Microsoft.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows\NetworkConnectivityStatusIndicator

Create a 32-bit DWORD "NoActiveProbe" and set it to "1"

This can be done using 'gpedit.msc' in Pro/Bus/Ult versions of Windows 7 or just create the key.

And here's the spreadsheets of all the Group Policy Settings and their registry values.

EDIT - Forgot the link to the spreadsheets.

I think he may be talking about 'focus'.

You used to be able to block applications from stealing the focus from what you were working on. Since IE7, that isn't possible anymore. I hate it.

They even have a setting where you can adjust focus with TweakUI but it hasn't worked since IE7. :\
