Scaring children about the dangers of the Internet and blocking access to social-networking sites can do more harm than good, according to a report released Friday by a committee tasked by the U.S. government to explore online safety. [more]
    A very good article!!!!!!

One thing i do know is BLOCKING just causes MOST people to try and get around stuff.. (Which solves nothing)

Education (rather than blocking) is better NO MATTER WHAT THE TOPIC IS!

Education on the hazards of the internet is always something that should be stressed but its not gonna stop a kid from going on facebook or myspace.

A huge reason they block these sites Dude111 is to protect the integrity of the network, kids being able to go to whatever website they want to will get a machine infected in no time. Websense and other sites are constantly updating rules based on what they find when it comes to pornography/infections.

Bottom line is when you are in school you are supposed to be focused on your studies not what Marie Ann is posting on her facebook wall. Save it for your home. We had a huge issues of kids at my last job who would constantly try to find porn and other non educational related items, granted their are new proxy sites that come up all the time but they dont last long and is you have a security person that is watching will block that stuff. Another thing you need to take into consideration is that these internet connections are paid by your taxes.

Just create an account with OpenDNS | DNS-Based Web Security and restrict those sites. Then use the Firmware DD-WRT to forbid changing the DNS servers that are handed out. This is my config. They can change the DNS servers in the computer, but it won't work. Bahahaha!

Its not the DNS servers kids change, they just jump on the thousands of new proxy websites that are created every day. Plus there isnt anything higher up that will run the DD-WRT firmware for such a large network. We were running dual Cisco ASAs, ill use those over DD-WRT anyday in a production network
