"Security Protection" malware
Anyone familiar with removing this? It's planted a "defender.exe" in my Application Data, and an icon on my desktop (see below). Apparently it's new; a lot of queries have appeared on the web in the last week.
Of course it doesn't appear in "add/remove programs", and so far neither ZoneAlarm nor AdAware (both updated today) has detected it.I never meant to say that the Conservatives are generally stupid. Looks like the typical "Scareware" fake antivirus that is going around...
Typically you can use a combination of any of the following...
RKill... remove the process from running in backround so you can run your scans
Most are best run in "Safe Mode" and remember to turn off system restore
I usually follow up with CCleaner and use the registry scan option in it to route out any leftovers.
