Oh, and (other than another BUMP for the thread) it was reported on BBC Breakfast that it was believed that there may have still been hackers in LinkedIn's systems yesterday, so if you changed your password yesterday, then they suggest that you change it again today - just to be safe...

Obviously, you should really be using a different password for the different systems you use; if your [old] password for LinkedIn is the same as any other passwords, then you should be changing those too..............................but you don't have the same password for anything else, DO YOU....

yeah because of the dozens of sites people visit on the web, who can remember every dang password they have if each is different.

Hell I can barely remember my SSN let alone 2 dozen Passwords. I can't even remember my bank cards pin # so I can't use an ATM for cash, I have to write out a check at the bank and get cash that way.

How about LinkedIn get their site secured first and then people change their passwords.

There are ways of making your passwords different while still easy to remember....which is what I do for all of my ones...

All you need to do for that is to have a "base" part of the password, then add a unique section to it...

For example, and I'm not going to use any decent/strong password examples, if you were on here, you could have something like "PassIMO", then if you were over at overclock.net you could use something like "PassOCn".....you have an account with LinkedIn, how about "PassLI"...

Again, that's just a few quick examples of how you can have one password base (all starting with "Pass" and then a site identifier "IMO" for TechIMO, "OCn" for OCn, "LI" for LinkedIn, etc) and if you were to make the 'base' bit more complex, then you've got a fairly strong and safe password...

I do that, but then add a bit more of a tweak, but I'm not going to say what that is in public......for obvious reasons..

Yes, but would you rather change it and be safe, or leave things alone until you think that they've secured it....? Especially if you've got the same password there as everywhere else.........

I know what I'd rather do..

Man, read this a bit late but changed my pass! Thanks GZ. So many of these social sites are needing complete revamps.

In related news, got the local coffee joint to change their policy about open wi-fi due to sidejacking. Didn't get paid for it though. Hrmph... public service I guess.
