Last Windows update, downloads?
Dose anybody know if the last Windows XP update was about 90 downloads?
A friend suspects a neighbor is using her router.
He is known to the provider, for stealing service.
She didn't download anything, and the provider, tells her 90 were done in an hour.Hard Sayin Not Knowin

I know W7 has an update history tab. Can't remember if XP does as well. That would show you whether or not she did the updating.
Good job, friend-of-friends!

can she lock out the router, encrypt it and all that, lessen the chances of him stealing from her in the future?
or are they trying to find out for sure, and see if some sort of charges can be pressed or fined or something?i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

I haven't been up there yet, but they shut it down for now, the desktop is wired.
They are just worried about hacking, as she dose banking from her computer.
I was scheduled to do a clean install when this came up, because of a slowdown
The provider suggested that the downloads could be windows update.
The router is supposed to be passworded and WPA2, but she has broken ribs, so she can't get upstairs easily to check, even the brand.
I'll be going up soon, and wanted to check, the update story.
I was in front of one of my XP machines when it did 2 updates in a row, with reboots, and didn't notice how many there were.
90 sounds excessive.
I know after a service pack3 clean install there are 104, but I have never seen more that a few after that. edit 116 on a clean install nowLast edited by stroyal; August 21st, 2012 at 10:08 PM.

If someone's did preach into her router password , it means he's a professional or using powerful crack programs .. The only way is to use the maximum length of a password and changing it periodically .

Every 24 hours?
You can't change the backdoor password, anyway.
Any idiot can hack the backdoor password of a Linksys router, and many others, in 24 hours, with a simple Linux program.
No power, or professional needed.
They have a 7 character password that is useless, as it is divided to 4 and 3, and tells you when the first four are right, then the last 3 is really easy to crack.
This can't even be disabled in a Linksys, and many others.Hard Sayin Not Knowin

You are not listening!
Backdoor passwords, can't be changed.
There is no answer to this problem, and Linksys has done nothing about it.
The only fix is to flash the router with an aftermarket bios, that lets you shut off the feature.
I am not going to post links, as I don't help hackers, but just Google, backdoor router hack.Hard Sayin Not Knowin

Yep , me too , i'm trying to avoid naming hack programs and any related encouraging stuff, but what i know is routers come with a password for user and admin , and , usually , it's "Admin " ... This password is by default .. But you can change this Default too ..
Now , Are you saying that there's another backdoor pass beyond that ,Stroyal ?

Yes, it is for the auto connection of devices.
It has been several months since this came up, and I forget some of the details, but you can look it up.
These routers in question have the ability for a device to connect to it automatically, without a password.
You know, the old sacrificing security, for convenience, crap.
I'll PM a link.
Titled, 100000 router have default backdoor.
It doesn't have many details, but it says enough.
A little Googling will yield the details.
I shut down my wireless for months, but I'm pretty sure no one in my neighborhood is a hacker, so I am using it again.
I want to do the DD WRT BIOS flash, but only have 1 router at the moment, so I am holding off, as flashes don't always go right.
