Free Thumb Drive Encryption?
I have a friend looking for free encryption software to protect his thumb drives. Anyone have any experience with a good one they can offer? I've never bothered to encrypt one of mine, so I've no idea what to recommend. Thanks

TrueCrypt - Free Open-Source On-The-Fly Disk Encryption Software for Windows 7/Vista/XP, Mac OS X and Linux
That's based on 2nd hand recco's. I've never dealt with encrypting files myself.Good job, friend-of-friends!

Thanks Tony. I got the same recommendation from another site. I'll point him at TrueCrypt.

I've been using Truecrypt for years. In fact I have my browser (Portable Firefox) in a Truecrypt container on my laptop. Highly recommended.
Let me tell you one thing though. I have a bruteforce truecrypt cracker that can crack the password of a truecrypt container. So I would A) Create a password that's more than 14 characters long or B) use a password and a keyfile. Read the truecrypt manual on using keyfiles. I have some very private stuff that is protected with a password and a keyfile from a DVD movie. It's best to use a DVD file from the disk becuse the first MB of data won't change on you. If that keyfile changes your out of luck.
