| A security question about DNS
I don’t use services as msn icq or aim, which I can gain virus from. Now I got Norton anti virus, Norton personal firewall and adaware 6. And my operating system is windows 2000.
I play an online game, runescape, when you login there you gain the DNS from the last person how was logged in, yesterday when I logged was it a different DNS.
So wonder can it happen when you get ADSL that a different ip address come up instead?
The person have not done his attack and take all stuff from my account, so what should I do now?
I would guess it should be some Trojan horse or some keylogger how have been placed, but why not Norton antivirus discovers it? And how cud I possible gained this virus? Maybe it is a real hacker .
Thx for any given help |

What do you mean when you say DNS? I suspect you don't mean Domain Name Server.
If you have ADSL using DHCP to obtain your IP configuration then yes, it can change from time to time. If you typed your IP in manually, then it shouldn't change. |

Ok. Check The properties for the Network, and the Properties for TCP/IP and see if the "Use DHCP server to configure IP" (or something like that) is checked or not.
Where do you see that the DNS is changed? If someone indeed did change your DNS server adress it could be used to attack your computer in different ways. But since you have AV-software, Firewall SW and Adaware installed I think you should be fine.
Where are you from anyway? |
