What's your point? I must've missed something somewhere.

What, that you do not get TOP protection for FREE?
I paid less then $60 for three years of ZA and I am very happy with it.
Best Firewall I ever used.!!

July 3rd, 2003, 03:22 PM #4Anything more to say?We have continually hardened security in our free ZoneAlarm, as we do with all our releases, but we do not include all advanced features in this
basic product.Y0K compliant, counting upwards ;)

why the rant?
if you want the absolute best protection, you won't find it in a free product.
either buy the commercial version or switch to another product.
nuff said.

Gee, they should give away all the features for free so we don't have to pay them anything!

quite amusing how some people are willing to fork out $300 or more on a radeon or gf fx, hundreds for a dual proc mobo, but when it comes to software...no way ! paying for software ??? ha !

Hi,
I agree, if ya take out the multi year deal it's only a few cents a day for an outstanding product.
If they didn't " reserve" a few features for those that pay then they prolly couldn't aaford to produce even the "basic" edition that millions of users have d/led and enjoy the benefits of for free.
If you d/l a program and enjoy/benefit from it then for the sake of progress buy the full version if it's offered, this will at least go someway towards getting the developers who spent their time/money writing the code for this to be motivated to write a bit more and provide updates etc for those that do and those that don't pay for the provision of such.

My problem with it is ZA leads you to beleive that you are secure when in fact your wide open to that type of exploit. At least TELL people that the freebie version doesnt protect against such and such type of exploits.
Heck I dont even use ZA and putting out a freebie with that type of exploit without telling people is criminal in my view-Mntsnow-

I don't see a problem with that.. It's a free firewall and a theoretical exploit. I know how quickly theoretical exploits can turn into real ones, but it sounds like something a program already on your computer does, not a problem with the incoming packets you'd deploy a firewall to protect against.

I'm with nighthawk here I don't see where as this is an issue. Its a theoretical exploit that involves bypassing your program comtrols with a program that is already embedded. And this doesn't seem to be an issue related to the freee version at all. It seems to be an issue with the pro versions. ?? maybe I'm wrong here. I don't expect the worlds greatest firewall for free.

another answer http://www.securityfocus.com/archive...1/2003-07-07/2
This simple technics to open up your PC/Network to anybody isn't theoretical. This vulnerability makes THIS firewall simply worthless.
That "little" fact known to the puplic can happen all the time with any software. But how the producer deals with it makes him punishable at least according to our Product Liability Law here. I wish their business going a real Waterloo

If you want a secure firewall for free, install linux and learn about iptables, ipchains, or ipfwadm. Then lock it down tight. If you feel ambitious (or just feel the need to use windoze over a superior OS), do the above, then set up ip masquerading to allow your windoze boxes access to the net while still providing protection.
Just my $.02About 5% of the people in the world can't think.
Another 5% can think and do.
The remaining 90% can think, but don't.

SAO is pretty good, but I took a break between the first and second arc while watching it.
