I don't know how many of you knew that if you go to, for example, Google and type in just your TechIMO screen/member name into the search bar and hit search, that Google will return a hit listing TechIMO and your name. Click on the link and you will go directly to TechIMO and be able to view your history.
I for one do not like this. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening? |

You can do that in TechIMO as well without google.
How do you think you found this place?
Probably google.
If we dont' allow google to index this place... it DISAPPEARS because nobody new will ever come here.
I don't get the problem maybe!!!??
Put your or somebody you knows phone number into google.. that may make you a little more worried.

I agree. Thats how i found this through google. Not a problem here. Have nothing to hide. Its not like it shows any personnal info about yourself. Or does it? Think not. |

It didn't for me. I went 10 pages into the results and nothing.
If it does for others, that's not a good thing though.

I did not find TechIMO thru Google.
And it so happens that I discovered this privacy violation thru a person who is reciently out of Federal Prison on parole who typed my member name into Google as a whim and was linked to TechIMO. I do not care for this.

You have to realize this IS a public site. This site is not password protected to view its contents, only to submit replies.
If you don't want somebody like that to find you, it is your responsibility to protect your privacy. This person apparently knew your nick from your past. Just have to change your nick and move on we can not comply with everybody's past here. Quote: Originally posted by SeanC It didn't for me. I went 10 pages into the results and nothing.

Sean | You have a common name so its not as easy to track you. Put in vass0922, being a more unique name you'll find plenty.
Yes you WILL be able to find that information with any username... that is the internet... welcome aboard
People must realize that ANYTHING in the public domain CAN Be indexed by search engines. on my resume online there is NO address or phone number although you CAN find my resume in google. It is your responsibility to keep your privacy in mind when putting anything online.
(Note: I've taken my resume down temporarily so I don't get 5000 people looking at it ) |
