AVG is the standard response for "free antivirus". It's quality is supect (search for my other posts on the subject), but in a pinch it's better than nothing. http://www.grisoft.com
You can find lots of places on the web that sell Norton 2003 for about $12. Considering what you'll spend in lost time, data and software if you do get struck with a virus, it's well worth the cost. |

I was thinking the same thing, JP. Maybe you can run the updates on your computer...install your friend's HD on your system and scan it for him/her. |

Well, if I remember correctly, you should be able to download a .zip file or something of the virus def. updates. Could be wrong though...
David
EDIT: Yup, here ya go: http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_updt7.php Just download the .bin file, and them copy that over with the AVG anti-virus, install the AV, restart windows, then install the updates. There should be an option within AVG to import udate file. |

I found out he can get to the internet, but his computer is just so slow. I'm thinking a virus is causing something to hog the memory because on start up AIM will eventually start up. |
