3 HDD's trying to RAID

Running Windows XP Pro

Original setup: Western Digital 7,200 RPM 40 GIG IDE.

Then added: WD Raptor 36 GIG SATA
also had to install a SATA controller card at this point (forgot my mobo was NOT the "deluxe" version which would have supported SATA).
note the SATA card has inputs for only 2 SATA cables...

Everything worked fine until I installed
HDD #3 - another WD Raptor 36 GIG.

I've checked the FAQ's on wdc.com and searched in here to no avail. Tried different jumper settings.

What's happening is that it's no longer recognizing either of the Raptors on boot up but the new one is spinning and getting warm. The old one is not spinning now and is cold as a cumber. Right now this is where I am at... I unplugged everything from the new (3rd) Raptor trying to go back to my original config and it's only recognizing my original IDE HDD.

I have gone into disk management and it shows the new HDD as being a 36 GIG and all... I just am afraid to format/partition it cause what if I accidently format the old one? (at the same time disk mgmt doesn't show Raptor #2).

Fire away any help here would make me as happy as a little girl : = )

edit * mobo is the Asus A7N8X NON-deluxe
edit #2 * I want to RAID the 2 Raptor's maybe I don't know what the heck I am doing is this possible while having the IDE drive be the OS drive? srry I'm not a techie here...

In BIOS, under Boot Order, do you still have IDE-0 booting before SCSI or RAID devices? (usually you would want boot order to be something like: CD-ROM, Floppy, IDE-0, etc)
Your original IDE HD's jumpers should be restored to whatever they were when things worked (whether that was CS [cable select] or Master)
I don't know about any jumpers on true SATA drives, so can't offer any advice here.
Does your SATA controller card support RAID-0 or RAID-1? If not, they you'll just have three drives (IDE, SATA, SATA)

*Update... Both SATA (Raptor's) are dead. The 1st one was working fine until a week ago. The other was apparently DOA.

I had some techie nerds at the local mom & pop ISP check into it. Actually those guys are very cool. Especially since they felt sorry for me and didn't charge me for looking at it.

Would y'all recommend some cooling extra cooling? If so, what type? I have read that those faster 10,000 RPM HDD's are bad about overheating...

My case is the Antec SOHO monster. (srry wasn't able to find a link with a pic. at the Antec website).

I purchased both of 'em from newegg.com, however at different times. Are they pretty good about returns? thanks
