| Recommend me an external IDE enclosure
Thinking of getting an external enclosure for an IDE drive , but I'm not sure which one would suit me right. I would just want it for backup purposes, and maybe to take to school but I'd refrain from that as much as possible.
What I think I'll do is purchase a 160GB 7200rpm drive and put it in my desktop machine, and then yank the current 80GB Maxtor and subject it to external torture as a backup drive.
Got any suggestions? My only real wants is that it include both USB 2.0 and FireWire, but it doesn't need to have FW. A nice looking case wouldn't help either. |

That one looks pretty good, although I don't need it to support CD drives and if it didn't, the size would be a lot smaller. Worth considering though. |

I checked that out as a matter of fact, seems OK. I'm also looking for someone who has personal experience with a unit, good or bad. I don't require a cooling fan, the faster the better, and dual interfaces is a me-want because my USB acts funny on my Asus mobo. |

well, I haven't heard anything bad about Speeze External Enclosures, however, I could be wrong, but I'd say read up on the reviews on Newegg and do a google search for the model number of whatever enclosure you are interested in and put the word "review" in the search with it....good luck... |

No, I'm not anywhere ready to order yet, still gotta get a replacement 160GB or whatever.
Thanks for the help though. |
