Just bought a new HD and I need some help...

I just got a Maxtor 160GB 7200rpm ULTRA ATA/133 8Mb cache and I hear that certain systems will only read up to 137GB?

I am not quite sure if my BIOS will be able to read it?

My system is about 1 1/2 years old (bought at future shop and given to me - P4 2Ghz, 40GB, 768MB Ram) and I downloaded a program from Maxtor to help read the extra space as long as you have the XP Service I pack(???)

Since I don't have the internet at home (I know, I know...), can you tell me if my system will be able to read the whole 160GB?

Please help....

Also if you format the HD and it only reads 137GB is there a way to go back and get the full 160GB?

I never heard that where did u get that information from, my friend has 200GB and it shows 200GB so i probably wouldnt worry about it

I think I would take it to a friends house...who has broadband..and download all the msoft updates...(unless its a bootloeg, lol)....

after u have dl'ed service pack 1 I think you will be fine......

I wouldnt use the maxtor software if I were you....

and if you only get 137gb now, yes, you can go back and correct the situation later.....of course you might have the reformat the whole thing and lose data.....
