Hard Drive Trouble
Alright, Well i purchased a 40gb Maxtor hard drve at my local computer show about 2 months ago. When I first put it in you know i partioned it and all that stuff. But the hard-drive seemed really slow, and mad really loud clicking noises. So after a couple weeks I finally took the drive out again after trying to boot a game off of it. The game took literally forever to load up just to the main menu, intro vid was all skippy too. So anyways I took out the drive and it seemed normal temputure. Then a friend reccomended that I take a look at the Jumper settings for both hard drives. Well my original Seagate, was set on Cable Select, so we switched it to Master. Then we switched the other on the new 40gb maxtor to Slave. This had no effect at all, any suggestions?

Doesnt sound good, clicking sounds are usually an indication of the drive about to die. I would suggest you do a backup just in case. From what you are saying, it should still be under warranty so just take it back and they should replace it for you.

It sounds like the drive may be dying, but should be under warranty through Maxtor. Seems like it would be easier to deal with directly with Maxtor, unless you bought it from a local dealer's table, as it seems to me, a lot of those computer shows are put on by traveling dealers. Maxtor warranty services This link is for Maxtor's website which allows you to check the warranty status of the drive by the serial number, and test the drive's fitness with Maxtor's PowerMax testing tool.
