Hi,
I recently purchased a Samsung Serial ATA hard drive for my computer. I have no clue how to set this thing up, and need some help with it.
My motherboard is an ASUS A7V333, and I already have the SATA power cable extension thingy that hooks onto the normal power plug. The thing I couldn't find is SATA interface cable.. I was just wondering if my motherboard might not be SATA compatible, because I never got a SATA interface cable when I bought it.
Do I need to buy a new motherboard, or just buy a SATA interface cable? I'm totally confused about this. I thought the setup was similar to my old hard drive. |

Does that mean I have to buy a new motherboard before I can install my hard drive? =( |

I just searched for pci SATA on newegg and got tons of results.. Some prices as high as $500 but some were in the $20-30 range, which would be perfect. I don't know what any of this stuff does though. |

egosophist....do you mean does it support SERIAL ata?
I doubt it, lol...but you would just have to buy the same pic serial ata adapter as mentioned above.
is that what you are asking?
(do you have a free pci slot?)
if its not a powerful pc to begin with, i think id just stay with regular ata hard drives

Wait...it's an ATA drive..SATA is different? God I feel so confused..
Can you tell I haven't messed with drives for at least 4 years...Haven't had a need... then like three of my four maxtors ate crap and died...then I got the new pc through my scholarship...now that drive died... now I am here...
What I got was an ATA Western Digital drive...
It said as much as I noticed, that it hooked up to the normal pc slots. Am I on crack... Do I need to worry... |

an "ATA" drive is just a regular "plain ol' " hard drive....basically any comp on earth will support an ATA drive.
an "SATA" drive is a new type of drive with different cable etc etc....if you had one you would know it because you probably wouldnt be able to hook it up cuz you wouldnt have anywhere to plug it into. Quote: maybe, but its all good. |

I think I am having a similiar problem. I got Western Digital hardrive, 80gb, and when I try to install Windows XP on my unpartitioned space, it says it is an "unknown disk" and that "it's not a Windows XP compatible disk". I tried to use that link for installing the new drivers, but I couldnt get that to work becuase it kept saying that the file "si3112r.sys" was missing... I appreciate any help you guys might have for me. Thanks,
Dustin |
