I have the Soyo KT600 Dragon Ultra Platinum Mobo which supports both SATA and IDE harddrive connection. I was wondering if you could have IDE and SATA configured HDD's coexisting, like can you have a system with both SATA and IDE harddrives?

You should have no problem running both SATA and IDE drives as long as one is master and the other one is the slave.

What if I already had a master and a slave configuration? For instance two IDE harddrives on the same cable, one master and one slave. Could I configure an SATA HDD or perhaps more than one SATA HDD to act independently from the IDE ones? |

Could be wrong though.

I have 2 SATA H.D. both are as master in a RAID 0 configuration.
I used a IDE Master + 1 DVD master+1CDROM slave with no problems.

When you have two in a RAID config does it show up as two seperate hdd's or as one large one? But I could run like 2 hdd's as IDE on one cable, one master and one slave, then have my DVD-RW and my DVD-rom in my other IDE slot on my mobo one as master and one as slave, and then also have a RAID config with two more? That would work? Not that I'm going to do it but theoretically thats plausible? |

I am new to this type of forum. If I understand correctly what I am reading in the posts above, it is possible to install a SATA drive and still be able to use the IDE ports to add additional drives. Can anyone explain how to configure the drives. I want to be able to use the SATA drive as my boot drive and then install a 120Gb IDE drive in the primary IDE port. I then would like to install a DVD Burner in the secondary IDE Port as the master and a 52X cd burner in the secondary IDE Port and a slave. Can someone please confirm if this will work????? |

As I understand it, you can have only one SATA drive on a cable anyway, so it's always a master. The only real issue is which is to be your primary boot drive, and you'll set that in the BIOS. |
