Notebook DVD Drives
One of my friends is looking for a DVD drive to replace his CD drive in his Compaq Presario 1260 Notebook. I've looked and cannot find a DVD drive made specifically for this model. Would any notebook DVD drive work here? If so, what are they and where can he get one? Or would he be better off getting a drive that connects via PCMCIA?
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure. Compaq Presario 1260 Notebook was all he told me. I'll ask him.

Thanks A Lot. I'm Chiguy's friend looking for the laptop drives. I am looking at this one here:

It looks the right size. If not i guess i can just RMA it. I won't be buying this for a while. I have some other upgrades that i want to do before this.

that should work fine. what you might want to do is call up compaq to ask if it will fit instead of guessing. most likely most drives will fit. but call just to make sure. internet business can be really sketchy on RMA computer parts that are not broken and you HAVE to pay for shipping back to them.
i would serious considering calling compaq first

I can't. The machine is a refurb and the people who refurnbished it filed off the Compaq serial number (without it Compaq Tech Support will not help me). I called their sales dept but they said there was no drive for that model, and they would not guarentee compatability with drives designed for other models
