I think you have to go to disk management and put a partition on it first..before it shows up in my computer (but dont ask me HOW, lol)

or you could boot to a floppy and do fdisk and there will be a 5th option there...which allows you to selct which drive to run fdisk on etc...you could put the partition on there etc

Yeah, JP's right, you need to go to disk management and format it before you will see it in my computer.

Indeed....its under Administrative tools for further clarification. Click on Computer Management and then click on the Disk Management icon on the left hand side. Should show you all the information about the current logical drives in the computer (even if they aren't showing up in Explorer). I had something similar happen when I deleted my Linux partition through the windows installer (fixing the bootloader so deleted partition in there too). The drive didn't show up in Explorer so after going to disk management I had to not only assign the drive a letter, then I had to format. After assigning it a letter I could see it in explorer but couldn't do anything until it had some form of partition. Now works fine!

ok, so i put in another HD...have main HD and now a western digital 8 gig.

bios picks it up, and device manager picks it up....
i tried doing the above operation, but it doesn't pick it up....? How can i get it to pick it up so i can format it and have it show up in windows under "my computer"..??

another update...tried using win xp pro cd to format the drive also, wouldn't recognize the drive..? tells the size and knows it there, but i can't access it to format.

some info i forgot to post..

this HD came out of an X-Box... so is it able to be used for my pc and i heard there is some special way i have to format it....

either that or the HD is messed up ???
